1968..IFIA Born
During the first International Inventors Conference held on 11 July 1968 in London, the first effective international cooperation between the national inventors’ associations was fostered and the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations was formed. The representatives of seven inventor associations from Denmark, Finland, West Germany, Great Britain, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland were present at the conference.
IFIA ..Humble begining
For some years, Mr. Harald, Director of the Swedish Inventions Office in collaboration with Mr. Leif Nordstrand collected information and made contacts in other countries and worked quietly away preparing the ground for the formation of international inventors bodies.
The first Statutes were drafted on 27 June 1968, circulated prior to the conference, and approved during the General Assembly meeting.
The first President of the newly established inventors' federation was elected to be Mr. W.A. Richardson, chairman of the British Institute of Patentees and Inventors. The vice presidents were Dr. F. Burmester (West Germany), S. Green (Great Britain), F. Pfaffli (Switzerland), H. Romanus (Sweden) and the chairman was S. Green (Great Britain). IFIA Secretariat was opened in 207 Abbey House, 2-8 Victoria Street, Westminster, London, and Mr. A. L. T. Cotterell, Secretary of the British Association was elected as the Secretary of the Federation.
The council of the Institute of Patentees and Inventors, London, gave a dinner on Thursday, 11 July at the Hotel Café Royal, Regent Street, London, to commemorate the inauguration of the new Federation.
The first bulletin was published in September 1968 including a message from the president declaring the objectives of the federation formation. The first international symposium on the situation of inventors was jointly organized by the International Federation of Inventors' Associations and World Intellectual Property Organization from May 21 to 24, 1984 in WIPO headquarters in Geneva.

Established in 1968, the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA) is a non-profit organization the activities of which is approved to be public utility by the Swiss Government. IFIA convenes over 175 members from 100 countries cooperating devotedly to support innovations and inventors all around the world.

On October11th, 2021, when the world was fighting tooth & nail to find a vaccine for Covid 19, we in India took a bold decision to launch IFIA ABIPIR India chapter-rebranded as IFIA Bharat to foster innovation & to gear for such challenges that will crop up in future.
With a strong foresight set up on innovation as the driver & to support from agriculture to space, startups, universities, established companies, the chapter was launched online with the blessings of Ifia global President Dr.Ali Reza Rastager.

Dr. Marcelo Vivacqua-Director IFIA LATAM & Founder ABIPIR
Dr.Marcelo is a highly insipiring innovative leader, who was instrumental in setting up the India Chapter, under his guidance.
On September 11th, IFIA president Mr.Rastegar appointed Dr.Marcelo Vivacqua as IFIA’s Director of Latin America.
Inventor, Researcher, Academic Professor Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Dr. Marcelo Vivacqua is responsible for developing treatments in the areas of non-surgical castration and cancer in mammals that earned him multiple awards at international innovations fair.
He is also the founder of The Brazilian and International Innovative Inventors and Researchers Association (ABIPIR).
Nowadays, he is the Science, Technology, and Innovation Department of the Government of Espirito Santo State. Also, he is the coach of a workshop called Excellence in Smart Innovation Program. This workshop’s primary goal is to help professional inventors increase their creativity and entrepreneurship skills and contribute to forming the future generation of it. Some of the financial resources coming from this workshop get used to help Brazilian inventors who cannot afford the costs of prototyping, patent application, participating in inventions shows, etc. He has also created the Latin American Intelligence in Innovation Agency, which has the primary goal of supporting the inventors of IFIA and ABIPIR to connect themselves with investors worldwide.

Anand Kannan is leading the IFIA ABIPIR initiative in India.
He is the CEO of Avas Digitech a startup specializing in Innovation management which deals in complete process from ideation to commercialization.
He holds double post-graduation in Marketing & international trade, a packaging design specialist from NID, Certified Business analyst from Automation Anywhere in the area of Artificial Intelligence & Certified Innovation management consultant from Erasmus University.
Dr.Vishal Rao U S -Director Health care Innovation
Dr (Prof) U S Vishal Rao - MS, FRCS (Glasgow) FACS (USA) and Fellow of Royal Society of Medicine.
Dr.Vishal Rao is presently the Country Director - Head Neck Surgical Oncology and robotic surgery and the Dean for Centre of Academic Research at HealthCare Global (HCG) Cancer centre Bangalore, India. He is a TEDx speaker and inventor of the Aum Voice Prosthesis a low cost speaking device for throat cancer patients - an innovation that has been considered among the 100 global social innovations across the globe and received wide recognition from BBC, Harvard Business Review and Forbes. He has more than 18 patents filed for his innovations on medical devices, drugs, techniques and theories. He is a member of consultative group to Principal Scientific Advisor, Govt of India. He is also Member of Vision Group for Biotechnology, Govt of Karnataka.
He has been recipient of several awards - Kempegowda Award - highest civil award conferred by the Bengaluru Corporation, the Varshada Kannadiga Award 2018 (Kannadiga of the Year) for his contributions in Science and Technology. Rotary vocational training award 2016 for inventing the voice prosthesis for his throat cancer patients.
Dr. Jitendra Kumar- Director-Bio Innovation
Dr.Jitendra Kumar is an acclaimed leader in Biotechnology & is currently heading Bangalore Biotechnology center as its Managing Director.
Dr. Jitendra is accomplished and highly experienced in Technology evaluation, Incubation, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Life Sciences domain (Healthcare- Pharma and Medical devices/Diagnostics, Agriculture/Food/Nutrition, Environmental Biotechnology, and Industrial Biotechnology).
Hands on experience in setting up and running a Life Sciences Incubator/Park and making it financially self-sustainable. Trained biotechnology researcher, knowledgeable and experienced in product development and commercialization through own start-up biotech venture. Heading pioneering Life Science Incubation Centre of India and mentoring several Biotech Start-ups to make them venture ready. Hands on experience in technology entrepreneurship and commercialization.

Currently, the Chief Executive Officer, at Atal Incubation Centre at Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh supported by NITI-Aayog, Govt of India.
Dr. Prasun Mishra
Dr. Prasun Mishra is a leading life science, technology, and healthcare thought leader and an Impact Investor. A scientist with numerous publications/ patents to his credit. He has contributed to developing several drugs and combinations in trials and approved and has over 40 prestigious awards and over 35 keynote talks & invited lectureships. During his distinguished career, he served the pharma giant Genentech, Roche, Rutgers University and NCI, NIH, DHHS, U.S. Government.
He is a Founding Partner of GSIF: Global Sustainability Impact Fund LLC. He also serves on the executive team of the Global Fund for Sustainable Development (GFSD): The United Nations SDGs Implementation Program.
Dr. Mishra is also a founding partner in the Silicon Valley-based M7 Healthcare Accelerator. He is a co-founder of Precision BioPharma Inc. and Agility Pharmaceuticals. Among his professional associations, he serves American Association for Precision Medicine (AAPM) as the founding president. Dr. Mishra, an impact investor, is also the Founding Chair of WISE: World Investors and Entrepreneurs Society, an investment collective with a global footprint. He is also a part of a few angel groups. Dr. Mishra is an advisor to a few venture capital and private equity firms, including Barcelona Ventures, Legacy Health Capital, Elysium Ventures, and Global Health Impact Fund.
He also currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Health Hub and is an advisor to UCSF's Catalyst Program, Innovation Ventures, and InVent Fund. He led research efforts focused on preventing & curing chronic diseases, not only treating the sick but also providing knowledge/ tools to individuals to live longer, healthier lives.

Sanjay Palsamudram
Sanjay Palsamudram is a successful entrepreneur, technology investor and a mentor with more than 28 years experience in semiconductors, software and systems. He cofounded SmartPlay, a chip design and embedded software company, and grew its operations to 1300+ employees across India, USA and Southeast Asia. The company was successfully acquired by Aricent for USD 180M in 2015. Prior to SmartPlay, he held several executive, management, and technology roles at Texas Instruments and Sun Microsystems.
As the Managing & General Partner of a Mauritius venture fund, he has invested in multiple deep-technology companies across various industry verticals like automotive, biotech, semiconductor, AI, cloud, IoT, etc. He serves on the board of several of these companies. He’s also a member of the Investment Committee for Canbank Ventures.

Dr. Shyam Vasudeva Rao
Founder & Director of Forus Health Pvt Ltd., Technical Director Maastricht University, Faculty of Health, medicine and life sciences, The Netherlands, Co-founder & Director Renalyx health systems, eHealth enablers, Rx Digi Health Platform all in Bangalore.
His research work has been on High performance computing from the Indian Institute of Science & has worked with CG Smith as Team Lead, Ericsson General Manager, Tata Consultancy Services Sr Product Manager and Director Philips Medical Systems. He did his engineering and masters in Electronics from SJCE, Mysore University.
His first innovation was a hardware antivirus solution called Knox card. He co-invented this in 1989 and this led to a start-up called Knoxware which was one the first to come up with such a unique solution to computer virus protection in a generic way.
He has won several awards for his thesis at IISc a gold medal and Prof. Badkas best thesis award, His innovation 3nethra, an all in one eye screening device, at Forus has won several Loral’s like DST Locked Martin Gold medal, Perimal Award, Sankalp Award, CNBC TV18 Award, Samsung Innovation Quotient Award, NASCOM Innovation Award and Anjani Mashelkar Inclusive Innovation Award for 2011. In 2016 IOT India Congress awarded IOT Thought Leader. In 2017 one of my innovative product at Forus Neo won the Marico Innovation award.
He has published more than 40 technical papers and filed more than 25 international patents with 5 US patent grants.
Sudanshu Mani-IRSME (Retd. General Manager/CF, Chennai),Fellow of Institute of Mechanical Engineers, London
Sudhanshu Mani retired in the apex grade of GoI from the Indian Railways (IR) Service of Mechanical Engineering as General Manager, Integral Coach Factory, Chennai after serving IR for 38 years. He also served as Railway Advisor in the Embassy of India, Berlin for 3 years, interacting with railway systems in Europe and other advanced countries on behalf of IR. He is a Fellow of Institute of Mechanical Engineers, London. He led the Train 18/Vande Bharat Express project, the first ever indigenous semi high-speed train of India, from concept to delivery.
After retirement, he is engaged in advisory role in the corporate world and technical, strategic and investment consulting and he has discovered that, as someone who accomplished tasks and projects meaningfully in a government system, it was easier for him to deliver in any field of his interest.
His journey in leading and completing the unique Train 18 project is recounted in his best-seller book, ‘My Train 18 Story’. He has authored six more books, including four on a subject of his special passion, art and railways, one each on greening of environment and collation of the works of Ghālib and Shakespeare.

Being passionate for rural development, believes strong social economy can be built sustainably only when efforts are made to transform people at grass-root level in every society and are trained to blossom with one’s innate capacity and knowledge.

Anuraag S
Anuraag S, the founder of Pencilbox Design Consultancy, has spent 25+ years of his life experimenting, exploring, and innovating in the field of Creativity & Visual Merchandising. His contribution has brought valuable difference in organisations like Aditya Birla Group, Landmark Group, Shopper Stop Ltd and Future Group. His name is featured in ‘India Book of Records 2023’ for being the only Indian author to write books on Visual Merchandising, and as an Editor of India’s first online newsletter ThinkTank and a publisher of more than 85 articles in Indian and International Magazines. Anuraag has set many benchmarks in the field of Creativity and Visual Merchandising.
Reputable design and management institutes such as IIM, NID, NIFT, IAM, IILM, PSG Technology, and many more have invited him on several occasions to serve as their guest lecturer in order to benefit from his knowledge, skills, and expertise. In addition, he is an avid collector who owns one-of-a-kind collections of Matchbox labels, unusual postal stamps, money, lapel pins, vintage cigarette labels, and many other items. He continues to develop solutions for both small and large business issues with his own company, Pencilbox, which he founded in Bangalore in 2018.
His father wanted him to be an army officer, but the 7.62mm rifle was too hefty for him to handle, so he settled on an HB pencil and some crayons. The political climate of the country led him to draw cartoons and caricatures since they are a natural source of humour, and his love for his country secularized him. His passion for music and the deep cultural traditions of India led him to become a composer and a visualizer. He experiments daily with new ideas and related abilities to improve as a Visual Merchandiser & Creative Consultant.

To carry forward the mission of IFIA to inculcate innovation culture & make the society an inventive one, we have already embarked on the journey & so far conducted following events:
●Partnered with Pimpri chinchwad college of Engineering & the Pimpri smart city & launched innovation in public space & how engineers should think innovatively.
●Worked with Govt. of Bhutan to inculcate the value of innovation to make economy sustainable.
●Presented an Innovation & Entrepreneurship seminar for faculty of IIIT-Ulna, India.
●Partnered with BRICS to send Indian manufacturing startup ideas for BRICS industrial awards.
●Sent 400+ startups for IFIA-OFEED Morocco event & 6 were awarded Gold certificate.
●Sent 20+ startups for IFIA-INNOPA event & 10 were awarded Gold certificate.
●Working closely with several state governments to partner & work jointly in India & Brazil for finding solutions to plaguing public issues.
●We already have 1 regional headquarters in Mangalore & 7 sub chapters of IFIA-LAO office ready for setting up in different parts of the country.
Our goal is to establish at least 50 sub offices across the country, have people from tier 2,3 towns & villages understand the value innovation/Invention brings to them & society.
